In a recent Instagram post, lead singer Paul Rodgers revealed that his participation in the show would be challenging due to his health issues. Rodgers, who has been battling health problems, including 11 minor strokes and two major strokes over the past decade, expressed his desire to perform but had to prioritize his well-being. He wrote, 'My hope was to be at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time, I have to prioritize my health. I have no problem singing; it's the stress of everything else.'
This announcement comes as a surprise, as Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke had previously expressed excitement about the reunion. Kirke, in an interview with Gold Derby, confirmed their plans, stating, 'I think the secret is out that we will perform.' He also hinted at the possibility of performing with Rodgers, saying, 'I’m not at liberty to say which songs, but we’re going to play, and whatever Paul chooses is fine by me! Just to play with him again is going to be a real thrill for me. I missed him.'
The band's potential performance had been a topic of discussion, with Rodgers himself mentioning it to Rolling Stone, saying, 'Well, we may well. We’ll see how we go.' He also hinted at a potential song choice, 'Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy.'
Despite the setback, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will still feature a star-studded lineup, including performances by Iggy Pop, Olivia Rodrigo, Elton John, David Letterman, and Beck. Additionally, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, the White Stripes, Salt-N-Pepa, Warren Zevon, Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, and Lenny Waronker will be honored during the event.
