Get ready for an extraordinary sporting event that will showcase the power of human resilience and talent!
Rai, the official broadcaster of the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, is set to bring an inspiring journey to Italian homes.
On November 18th, Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 announced that Rai had been awarded the exclusive media rights for Italy. This agreement promises an immersive experience for the Italian public, covering the event from March 6th to 15th, 2026, across Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino Alto-Adige.
But here's where it gets controversial... This event is not just about the competition; it's a celebration of the Paralympic Movement's global impact and Italy's unique connection to it.
Italy, the host of the first-ever Paralympic Games in 1960, is gearing up for a momentous occasion that will further propel the Paralympic Movement forward. Rai, as the storyteller, will bring the athletic and human narratives of up to 665 athletes competing in 79 medal events into Italian households, accessible on free-to-air television and RaiPlay.
And this is the part most people miss... The coverage won't be limited to sports. Rai aims to engage with the regions and amplify the athletes' voices, creating a narrative that blends the beauty of the host locations with the power of sport. Milan, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Verona, and Val di Fiemme will be showcased, highlighting contemporary Italy's dynamic and vibrant energy to the world.
Giampaolo Rossi, CEO of Rai, emphasizes the universal language of sport, stating, "It unites, educates, and fosters an open and inclusive society." Rai is proud to contribute its voice and technology to celebrate an event that embodies the essence of public service.
Andrea Varnier, CEO of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, adds, "Italy's bond with the Paralympic Movement is unique. The first Paralympic Games in Rome sparked a movement, and with Milano Cortina 2026, we renew and strengthen that bond."
So, what's the bigger picture? Rai's coverage aims to promote an inclusive sports culture, going beyond the games to highlight the social relevance of the Paralympic Movement.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympics, featuring six sports: Para Alpine Skiing, Para Biathlon, Para Cross-Country Skiing, Para Ice Hockey, Para Snowboarding, and Wheelchair Curling.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on March 6, 2026, at the Verona di Arena, while the Closing Ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026, at the Olympic Ice Stadium in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Are you excited for this celebration of human potential and resilience? What do you think about the role of media in promoting an inclusive sports culture? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
